His Carbinite race team’s motto: To Learn. Every trip to Bonneville Rob gained more attention, because of the beauty of his racecar, its unique design, enthusiasm of the team, and that they were an underdog.ĭuring the off-season, Rob often took the car to local high schools to inspire students to dream big and pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields of study. Over the past few years Rob Freyvogel’s goal was to break the Piston Powered Land Speed record with his Carbinite AA/BFS streamliner, a car totally built by him and a dedicated and talented team of volunteers. I’ve been there multiple times as a journalist and a PR guy and I can attest to that. Bonneville is a place where there are no strangers even competitors are treated as friends. Rob Freyvogel was seriously injured in a 400-mph crash on the Salt Flats in an attempt to set a new Piston Powered Land Speed record.Īnyone who has ever participated as a competitor or even a spectator at Speed Week at Bonneville is aware that land speed record racers, regardless of class, are the most generous, sharing and friendly in the hobby.
